Kremlin Denies Knowledge of Putin’s Plans to Congratulate Trump, Dismisses US Election Interference Claims

On November 6, 2024, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to reports claiming Russian President Vladimir Putin would congratulate Donald Trump following his declared victory in the US presidential election. Peskov stated that he was unaware of any such plans, adding that Russia considered the United States an “unfriendly country” due to its support for Ukraine.

Peskov also addressed the ongoing tensions between the two nations, noting that relations were already at a historic low and any further deterioration was unlikely.

Meanwhile, Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova rejected US allegations of Russian interference in the election, suggesting that the United States should focus on its own internal issues. She emphasized that Russia’s interests would remain steadfast regardless of the US election outcome.

Zakharova also underscored that Russia would be open to evaluating any new proposals from the next US administration, provided they align with Russian interests.
